While KFC’s parent company, Yum!, insists this isn’t the real deal, we put it to the test—and the flavor is surprisingly close! Try it yourself and see how it compares to the classic.

Pro Tip: Before frying, ensure all ingredients are at room temperature. Cold chicken will lower the oil’s heat, resulting in less crispy, soggy fried chicken.

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces

  • 3 eggs, beaten

  • 4 tablespoons oil (for frying)

Coating Mix:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 4 teaspoons paprika

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning (or chicken bouillon powder)

  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

  • 1 teaspoon dried tarragon

  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley

  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme

  • 1 teaspoon dried chives

  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder

  • ½ teaspoon onion powder

  • ½ teaspoon celery salt
