Instructions:
-
Cook the spaghetti:
-
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
-
Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente.
-
Drain, reserving about ½ cup of pasta water, and set aside.
-
-
Brown the ground beef:
-
While the pasta cooks, heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
-
Add the diced onion and cook until softened (about 3-4 minutes).
-
If using garlic, add it and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
-
Add the ground beef, breaking it up with a spoon, and cook until browned (about 5-7 minutes). Drain excess fat if needed.
-
-
Simmer the sauce:
-
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, salt, pepper, and oregano.
-
Reduce heat to low and let simmer for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. If the sauce is too thick, add a splash of reserved pasta water.
-
-
Combine and serve:
-
Add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet and toss to coat in the sauce.
-
Serve hot with grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.
-
Enjoy your simple, old-school spaghetti! 🍝
