  • 1 loaf rustic Italian bread, sliced into thick pieces

  • ½ lb (225g) ground beef

  • ½ lb (225g) Italian sausage, casing removed

  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • 2 tbsp olive oil

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tbsp fresh basil, chopped (+ extra for garnish)

  • Salt & pepper, to taste
