Instructions:
-
Cook the Ground Beef:
-
Heat 1 tsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
-
Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
-
Cook until browned and no longer pink (about 6-8 minutes). Drain excess fat if needed. Remove beef from the skillet and set aside.
-
-
Sauté the Peppers and Onions:
-
In the same skillet, heat the remaining 2 tsp olive oil over medium heat.
-
Add the chopped green pepper, red pepper, and onion. Sauté for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are tender and slightly caramelized.
-
-
Combine Beef & Veggies:
-
Return the cooked ground beef to the skillet with the peppers and onions. Stir well to combine and heat through for 1-2 minutes. Adjust seasoning if needed.
-
-
Warm the Pita Bread:
-
Lightly toast the pita bread in a dry skillet or microwave for a few seconds to make them pliable.
-
-
Assemble the Gyros:
-
Spoon the beef, pepper, and onion mixture onto the warm pita bread.
-
Add optional toppings like tzatziki sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, or feta cheese.
-
Fold the pita over or roll it up like a wrap.
-
-
Serve & Enjoy!
-
Serve immediately while warm. Enjoy your homemade gyros with a side of fries or a Greek salad!
-
Tip: For extra flavor, season the beef with 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp oregano, or ½ tsp paprika while cooking.
