Instructions:

  1. Cook the Ground Beef:

    • Heat 1 tsp olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

    • Add the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

    • Cook until browned and no longer pink (about 6-8 minutes). Drain excess fat if needed. Remove beef from the skillet and set aside.

  2. Sauté the Peppers and Onions:

    • In the same skillet, heat the remaining 2 tsp olive oil over medium heat.

    • Add the chopped green pepper, red pepper, and onion. Sauté for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the vegetables are tender and slightly caramelized.

  3. Combine Beef & Veggies:

    • Return the cooked ground beef to the skillet with the peppers and onions. Stir well to combine and heat through for 1-2 minutes. Adjust seasoning if needed.

  4. Warm the Pita Bread:

    • Lightly toast the pita bread in a dry skillet or microwave for a few seconds to make them pliable.

  5. Assemble the Gyros:

    • Spoon the beef, pepper, and onion mixture onto the warm pita bread.

    • Add optional toppings like tzatziki sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, or feta cheese.

    • Fold the pita over or roll it up like a wrap.

  6. Serve & Enjoy!

    • Serve immediately while warm. Enjoy your homemade gyros with a side of fries or a Greek salad!

Tip: For extra flavor, season the beef with 1 tsp garlic powder, 1 tsp oregano, or ½ tsp paprika while cooking.
