Instructions

1. Prepare the Caramel Layer:

  1. In a medium saucepan, heat the granulated sugar over medium heat. Stir constantly until the sugar melts and turns into a deep amber-colored liquid (about 5-7 minutes). Be careful not to burn it.
  2. Once the sugar is fully melted, add the cubed butter. Stir until the butter is completely melted and combined.
  3. Slowly pour in the heavy cream while stirring continuously. The mixture will bubble, so be cautious.
  4. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt. Let the caramel cool for 10-15 minutes.

2. Prepare the Fudge Layer:

  1. In a separate saucepan, combine the chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk, and butter. Heat over low heat, stirring constantly, until the chocolate is fully melted and the mixture is smooth.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt.

3. Assemble the Squares:

  1. Line an 8×8 inch (20×20 cm) baking dish with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.
  2. Pour the caramel layer into the prepared dish and spread it evenly. Let it cool for 10 minutes.
  3. Pour the fudge layer over the caramel and spread it evenly with a spatula.
  4. If desired, sprinkle sea salt flakes or chopped nuts on top for added flavor and texture.

4. Chill and Set:

  1. Refrigerate the fudge squares for at least 2-3 hours, or until firm.

5. Cut and Serve:

  1. Once set, lift the fudge out of the dish using the parchment paper overhang.
  2. Cut into small squares using a sharp knife. For clean cuts, wipe the knife with a warm, damp cloth between slices.
  3. Serve and enjoy! Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Enjoy these creamy, dreamy caramel fudge squares as a treat for yourself or to share with friends and family! 🍫✨
