We all have these little evening routines: closing the shutters, preparing our clothes for the next day… But there’s one we forget too often, and yet it could very well save us a lot of trouble. Unplugging certain kitchen appliances before going to bed is a simple but essential reflex to reduce the risk of fire. Why? I’ll explain everything.

Kitchen appliances we forget to monitor

Among the appliances that can pose a problem, two stand out in particular:  the air fryer  and  the toaster oven . These little companions of our daily lives seem quite harmless at first glance. We often use them for their practicality and speed, but once plugged in, even when turned off, they remain live and can pose a risk.

Some internal parts, especially on more affordable models, can wear out over time. The result? Overheating, short circuits… and sometimes even a fire during the night.

Why this risk is very real

Even a device that is believed to be completely switched off remains powered if it is plugged in. This danger is increased if:

  • The sockets are old or poorly installed.
  • A power surge occurs while you sleep.
  • The device has a defect or has suffered shocks.

Add to that the fact that these devices are often found near flammable objects ( paper towels, wooden furniture, curtains ), and you will understand why this simple act of unplugging is so valuable.
