Instructions:

- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease and lightly flour a 9-inch round or square baking pan.

- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Set aside.
3️⃣ Cream Butter & Sugars
- In a large bowl, beat butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each.
- Stir in vanilla extract and applesauce until smooth.
4️⃣ Combine Wet & Dry Mixtures
- Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet batter until just combined.
- If using, fold in walnuts or raisins for extra texture.
5️⃣ Bake to Perfection
- Pour batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
6️⃣ (Optional) Drizzle with Vanilla Glaze
- For extra sweetness, top with a simple glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp milk
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- Whisk until smooth and drizzle over the cooled cake.
