Instructions:
Cook the Beef:
In a large pot, heat a little oil over medium heat. Add the sliced onion, chopped garlic, and ginger. Sauté until the onions are translucent.
Stir in the ground turmeric, ground coriander, garam masala, and red chili powder. Cook for another minute until fragrant.
Add the beef cubes to the pot and season with salt. Brown the beef on all sides.
If using, add the coconut slices and mix well.
Add Water:
Pour enough water into the pot to cover the beef. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low. Cover and let it simmer for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the beef is tender. Stir occasionally and add more water if needed.
Tempered Spices:
In a separate pan, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the mustard seeds and let them pop.
Add the dried bay leaves, cinnamon stick, and chopped onions. Sauté until the onions are golden brown.
Stir in the ground turmeric, ground coriander, garam masala, and red chili powder. Cook for another minute.
Combine:
Add the tempered spices to the beef curry. Stir well and let it simmer for an additional 10-15 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Adjust seasoning with salt as needed.
Serve:
Garnish with chopped coriander leaves before serving. Enjoy your Spicy Beef Curry with rice or naan!
